THINK!

White Hat (State the facts)

Compact Disc Read Only Memory (CD-ROM) is a compact disc that used to hold text, graphics and hi-fi stereo sound. The disc is almost the same as the music CD, but uses different tracks of data. A CD-ROM player is capable to and controlled by card tat is plugged into one of the PCs expansion slots.

Historically, Sony of Japan and Philips of the Netherlands developed the compact disc (CD), a small hard plastic disc that could be economically produced in large quantities. CD-Audio was the first application for this new technology. It was very successful, due in large part to the producers adherence to a set of specifications that later became standards. When CD-ROM was designed, the industry recognized the need for standards and developed ISO 9660 as the base standard for all CD-ROMs.

Physically, the standard compact disc is a disc is made of clear polycarbonate plastic, coated with a reflective metal, and a protective coat of clear lacquer. Data is placed on the CD-ROM in the form of small pits recorded in a spiral track starting at the center of the CD-ROM and working at the outer edge. CD-ROM disks uses Constant Linear Velocity (CLV) format.

Yellow Hat (Positive aspects)

Compared to other storage disc and diskettes, a CD-ROM is a very rugged, long-lasting, secure medium for storing large amounts of read-only information. It is affordable to all computer users. The price is getting cheaper because of its mass production. Unlike tape that must be accessed sequentially, CD-ROM can be accessed randomly. Random access reduces the time required to retrieve data. It also allows retrieval software to quickly retrieve related data items across the entire database. In terms of multimedia, CD-ROM has emerged as the most cost-effective distribution medium of multimedia projects.

Red Hat  (Emotions)

Actually, before we have been asked to do this project together, we hope that our group member will be someone that we know well, so that it will be easy for us to cooperate. So… we feel suspicious and sad if we can’t make a good teamwork among our group members. But… when we knew we are the members, we feel very ecstatic and more confident to do this project because we knew each other before.

Before we start our project, we spent a lot of time choosing the topic and felt very confused at this stage. Then we decided to choose ‘CD-ROM’ as our project topic. Although at first we feel a little bit confused and overwhelmed because we don’t really know what is the next step to do, but we try to ask from the lecturer to solve our problem and we feel very happy when the problem is solved.

While preparing this project, we feel confused to choose the right source to be our reference in doing this project. Therefore, we feel cautious in doing our tasks. When distributing our tasks, we did our task with full determination. We feel very excited to do our first website and it is very interesting to us because this give us a new experience. Feeling jealous and surprised with other group’s product encouraged us to do the best for our group.

Finally, when we had completed our project, we feel very happy and smug to what we have done for a long time. Now we realize that workgroup is very important and it is also important to build a good bond between the group members in order to get a good result. We hope with this project, we can learn something that precious in our life and perhaps we can apply it in the future.

  Black Hat  (Negative aspects)

The negative aspect that we can detect from CD-ROM technology is it has an access time much longer than that of a magnetic disc drive, as much as half a second. It also cannot be updated. Type of CD-ROM that usually been pirated are like computer software and applications, games, movies and audio CDs. Other than piracy, CD-ROMs are very sensitive that it can easily be damaged or scratched by sharp objects.

Green Hat (Creative ideas)

We have so many creative ideas while doing this project. We try our best to implement these ideas in our website so that it will be more interesting and exciting for the user. We also hope that users can interpret all the information that we publish in the website.

To make our website more interesting and fascinating, we put some sound effect and graphics animation in it. Instead of two important aspects here, we also make sure that our website has a complete information and people enjoy visiting it.

Blue Hat (What is learned)

There are so many things that we learned from doing this technology review project. While completing this project we learn many new useful things that give us many benefits that we can use later in the future. We learn how to search for a web hosting and how to register the web site. We learn how to finish a project within a specific date and how to make a project based on a Gantt chart. We also learn how to search information using many material such us the revision book from the library and the Internet. We also learn how to make a progress report and how to work constantly.

We learn more about CD-ROM from the biggest thing until the smallest detail. We learn what is exactly the CD-ROM, the history of CD-ROM, the speed, size, variations, drives, network, the advantages of using it and the weaknesses of it. We also learn that CD-ROM have a brighter future in this technology and will be much more faster and more advance in the future that will makes our life much more easier and faster.

From the other perspective, we learn how to work in groups and how to create teamwork among each other. We learn that teamwork is very important in order to produce the best result.
